Chinese smartphone market saw a 2.2% rise in Q2/2018

China is the world’s second largest smartphone market. Big names like Samsung, Apple, and Sony are contesting for ground in the country. However, they are facing an intense competition with local smartphone makers like Xiaomi, Huawei, or Oppo, who are best known for their affordable phones with crazy specs.

According to the latest reports, Huawei officially surpassed Apple to become the world’s second-largest smartphone vendor out there. Specifically, Huawei shipped more than 55 million smartphone units during the second quarter of the year, while Apple sold 41 million units.

Some reliable reports claim that Chinese smartphone market saw a strong growth in Q2/2018. Specifically, more than 94 million smartphone units were shipped during the second quarter in China, which reported a 2.2 percent rise from the year-ago period.

Local smartphone firms recorded a strong rise in the second quarter of the year. Big makers like Huawei, Oppo, and Xiaomi made a huge contribution to smartphone sales growth in China. Tech experts predict that China might surpass the US to become the world’s number one smartphone market later this year.

In Q2/2018, Apple reported a slight drop in smartphone sales, mainly due to its pricy iPhone X. However, the Cupertino company still ranked among the top 5 smartphone firms in China. According to recent reports, Apple is planning to launch a 6.1 inch iPhone model with dual-sim functionality in China.

According to sources, Apple will report a strong boost in smartphone sales this fall when the company announces new iPhone models. The Cupertino company is expected to unveil three new iPhones this year, and all of them will be available in China in September. In reality, China has been Apple’s main focus in recent years. However, Apple is struggling to sell its phones in China.

Sources claim that new iPhone models have been in mass production at Foxconn’s facilities. Besides, Apple will manufacture a 6.1 inch iPhone in India, which helps Apple cut down on transport costs. Tech experts say that Apple will lower the price of its iPhone in India to attract more customers. That makes sense seeing that Apple’s products are among the hottest items in the country.
