Big names like Xiaomi, Huawei, and Oppo are doing pretty well in business. According to the latest reports, Xiaomi saw a strong growth in smartphone shipments in the first three months of the year. The company did not specify how many smartphone units they sold in Q1/2018. However, sources say that the Chinese firm shipped more than 28 million units during Q1, helping the company grab 8 percent of market share out there.
In reality, Xiaomi Redmi lineup of smartphones is among the best-selling phones on the market. The Xiaomi Redmi 5A shipments hit 5.4 million units in Q1/2018, beating out the Samsung Galaxy S9 which hits 5.3 million units.
During the first three months of the year, Apple topped the best-selling phones, thanks to the strong sales performance of iPhone X. According to reports, Apple shipped up to 16 million iPhone X units, while iPhone 8 and 8 Plus came in second and third respectively.
Sources say that Xiaomi also reported a slight growth in other sectors. However, the smartphone division contributed greatly to the total revenue of the company. Reports claim that Xiaomi posted a revenue of $5.3 billion in the first three months of the year. Mobile sales accounted for 67.5% of the company’s revenue in Q1/2018.
Besides, the company’s smart home products and online devices contributed more than 30% of the company’s total revenue, a slight rise when compared to the same period last year.
According to sources, the Chinese firm is planning to launch new smartphones this year to target mid-range segments like India and Southeast Asia. Tech experts say that Xiaomi is preparing for its move into the US market. They add that the Chinese firm is having its upper hand over its competitors in the US thanks to its low-cost phones. The company is also rumored to launch a flagship phone later this year.
